General FAQs

As an enrolled student at the University of Sunderland, you are automatically a member of Your Students' Union! This entitles you to a range of opportunities and services that you can get involved in, like joining one of our societies, coming along to one of the many events and activities we run on campus and beyond, and seeking academic advice from our independent advice team.

The University of Sunderland Students' Union is a student-led organisation and is separate from the University. Our main mission is to help shape students' lives for the future, and we aim to achieve this by amplifying your voices and providing a safe and inclusive environment where you can get the most out of your university experience. We're eager to hear your views - join one of our Union Council meetings, where you can influence the Union and Students’ Union policy, and speak about the things you’re passionate about!

The main offices of the SU are on the Ground Floor of the Edinburgh Building, City Campus - but you can also find us in Your SU @ CitySpace. We also have a student space on St Peter’s Campus – Your SU @ Riverside.

You can message us on Facebook, Instagram or via our website, where we'll get back to you between the hours of 9:00am-4:00pm as soon as we can. Alternatively, you can call us on (0191) 515 3030, email us at yoursu@sunderland.ac.uk or visit the SU in the Edinburgh Building.

The SU provides a number of services and opportunities, including an advice service, societies, volunteering, events, and so much more!

Absolutely! Come and have a chat, browse our shop, or simply find a seat and relax. We can’t wait to welcome you to Your SU!

Our normal opening times are Monday - Thursday 9:00am-4:00pm. Your SU @ Edinburgh Building is closed on Fridays, but staff are still available to answer online, email and telephone queries.

You can follow us on Facebook by searching for Sunderland Students' Union. Our Instagram, TikTok and X handles are @sunderlandsu.

If you want to join a society, you can visit Your Societies on the website, then hit the Join Group button! Can’t find the society you’re looking for? Don’t worry, you can set that society up yourself!

At the University of Sunderland, sports teams are run separate to Your SU by Team Sunderland. They have a great range of teams and clubs, so check them out!

At the start of the academic year, you should receive a talk from your programme leader or the Students’ Union about Course Reps, the role and what to expect.
