It’s that time of year again when we celebrate and recognise all the students who have made outstanding contributions to the student experience at Sunderland!

And we're now excited to reveal the shortlisted students and societies across all the award categories! Check out who's on the shortlists below.

Your Societies

This award is for an outstanding Society Committee member that has stood out as a role model for their hard work, dedication and effort.

The shortlisted students for this award are:

  • Holly Saunders
  • Nina Ulseth
  • Adekunle Oludayo Elijah

This award is for an outstanding academic society who have gone above and beyond to provide an excellent experience to its members.

For this award, the society must be classed as an academic one – i.e. related to the course, School and/or Faculty.

The shortlisted societies for this award are:

  • Fine Art Society
  • Law Society
  • Physiotherapy Society

This award is for an outstanding society who have gone above and beyond to provide an excellent experience to its members.

For this award, the society must be a non-academic society – i.e. anything that isn’t directly linked to a course.

The shortlisted societies for this award are:

  • Video Game Society
  • Islamic Society
  • Cosy Corner Society

This award is for an outstanding event that was run by at least one society. For an event to be outstanding, it does not need to be large. Small scale events can be outstanding!

This award will not be judged necessarily on the scale of the event but rather, the impact that the event has had on the students.

The shortlisted events for this award are:

  • Alt and Rock Society, Feminist Society, and Movie Society Christmas Collab Event
  • Islamic Society – Peace Demonstration for Palestine
  • Fine Art Society – Trip to York

SU Legends

This award is for any individual or group (including societies) who has displayed excellence in fundraising.

The shortlisted societies for this award are:

  • Islamic Society
  • Business Society – Ball Pool Charity Fundraiser
  • Law Society – LawWorks fundraiser

This award is for an individual or group (including societies) who has made an outstanding impact on student wellbeing through volunteering, campaigning, or project development.

The shortlisted students for this award are:

  • Sarah Leckenby
  • Ansh Shah and Rebecca Studholme
  • Ben Rayne

This award is for an individual or group (including societies) who has made an incredible impact on equality, diversity and inclusivity through events, volunteering, campaigning or project development.

The shortlisted individuals and groups for this award are:

  • Dead Name Campaign (Kai Longstaff, Dakota Gilday, and co.)
  • Meg Campbell
  • Maddie Stoica

This award is for an individual who has gone above and beyond to make the student experience as enjoyable as possible and was there for the community and others.

The shortlisted students for this award are:

An award of special recognition given by Your Presidents for an outstanding overall contribution.

The shortlisted students for this award are:

Your Voice

This award recognises a Student Voice Rep who has contributed to academic improvements by working in partnership with the University and SU.

The shortlisted students for this award are:

  • Kai Longstaff

This award recognises a Course Rep who has contributed to academic improvements by being consistently engaged with the student body, the SU and the University.

The shortlisted students for this award are:

Your Volunteering

This award is for an individual or group who has volunteered throughout their student experience. This individual should inspire others and lead by example, actively seeking out additional opportunities to volunteer their time.

This award is named in honour of Katherine Lavender, who was an outstanding volunteer. Not only did Katherine take part in many volunteering opportunities in the community, Katherine was also an SU Buddy, part of the Welcome Crew and a School Coordinator (now known as Student Voice Reps). On top of that – Katherine was great at connecting with other volunteers, keeping spirits high and making us all laugh!
