ET intubation & Pharynx and neck anatomy teaching

Teaching Session: Endotracheal (ET) Intubation & Pharynx and Neck Anatomy

📍 Location: Helen McArdle House, Room 122
📅 Session Focus: Hands-on and theoretical teaching on ET intubation and the anatomy of the pharynx and neck, with clinical applications for airway management.

🔹 Session Objectives

  1. Endotracheal Intubation (ETI) teaching with Dr Kavitha Manoharan (consultant anaesthetist): 15:00pm - 16:00pm

  2. Pharynx & Neck Anatomy: 16:00pm - 17:00pm

    • Anatomical divisions of the pharynx (nasopharynx, oropharynx, laryngopharynx).
    • Key structures involved in swallowing and airway protection.
    • Course of the laryngeal nerves, carotid arteries, and jugular veins in the neck.
    • Clinical relevance to airway management, tracheostomy, and emergency cricothyroidotomy.

🔹 Teaching Approach

Interactive anatomy discussion with models and diagrams.
Live demonstration of ET intubation on a mannequin.
Hands-on practice for participants with direct feedback.
Case-based learning: Discussing real-world airway emergencies.

This session is designed for medical students and healthcare professionals looking to strengthen their practical airway skills and understanding of neck anatomy in clinical settings.
