LONDON: Ghana Independence Day Celebration

Join us for an afternoon of food, music, and celebration!

Learn more about Ghana's Independence:

Ghana's Independence Day, celebrated annually on 6 March, marks a watershed moment in African history when the country became the first in Sub-Saharan Africa to gain independence from British colonial rule in 1957 and changed its name to Ghana thanks to persistent political activism, negotiations, and the resilience of the people of Ghana.

Ghana was initially called the Gold Coast. Ghana was first colonised by the Portuguese in the late 15th century, attracted by its rich resources. However, it was the British who took control of the region, then known as the Gold Coast, in the 19th century.
