Elections Voting Competition Terms and Conditions

1- The competition organiser is Sunderland Students’ Union Ltd (company no. 07702161), whose registered office is at University of Sunderland Students’ Union Ground Floor, Edinburgh Building, City Campus, Chester Road, Sunderland, SR1 3SD.

2- The competition is open to University of Sunderland Students aged 18 years or over, but not employees of Sunderland Students’ Union or University of Sunderland, and their close relatives and anyone otherwise connected with the organisation or judging of the competition.

3- There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this competition.

4- By entering this competition, an entrant is indicating their agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.

6- Only one entry will be accepted per person. 

7- Closing date for entry is tied to the closing of the Elections voting period, and will be Friday 8th March 2023 at 13:59. After this date, no further entries to the competition will be permitted.

8- No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason.

9- The rules of the competition and how to enter are as follows:

By voting during the Elections Voting period, participants are in with a chance to win an iPad, a complimentary night out at Independent in Sunderland inclusive of drinks (available exclusively for Sunderland-based students), or a UoS merch bundle worth £100. Winners will be randomly selected and contacted after the closing of the Voting Week, and each winner is only eligible for one prize. 

Additionally, societies with six or more members have the chance to win £250 in extra funding by achieving the highest percentage of voter turnout or the highest number of voters. In the event of a tie, a random draw will determine the winner, and a society cannot win both the highest percentage voter turnout and the highest number of voters prizes.

10- The competition organiser reserves the right to cancel or amend the competition and these terms and conditions without notice in the event of a catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, act of God, or any actual or anticipated breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other event outside of the company organiser’s control. Any changes to the competition will be notified to entrants as soon as possible by the competition organiser.

11- The competition organiser is not responsible for inaccurate prize details supplied to any entrant by any third party connected with this competition.

12- The prizes are as follows: 1x iPad 10th Generation, 1x free night out for 2 people at Independent in Sunderland with all drinks included, 1x £100 UoS merch bundle, 2x £250 grant payment (reserved to societies only).

The prizes are as stated and no cash or other alternatives will be offered. The prizes are not transferable. Prizes are subject to availability and we reserve the right to substitute any prize with another of equivalent value without giving notice.

13- Winners will be chosen at random by software, from all entries received and verified by competition organiser and/or its agents.

14- The winners will be notified within 3 days of the closing date and announced publicly during the Election Results Night on Wednesday, 13th March 2023. The winner will only ever be contacted by Sunderland Students’ Union. If the winner cannot be contacted or does not claim the prize within 7 days of notification, we reserve the right to withdraw the prize from the winner and pick a replacement winner.

15- The prize can be collected in person during the Elections Results Night on 13th March. If the prize winner cannot attend the event, the competition organiser will notify the winners when and where the prize can be collected.

16- The competition organiser’s decision in respect of all matters to do with the competition will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

17- The competition and these terms and conditions will be governed by English law and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England.

18- The winners agree to the use of their name and image in any publicity material, as well as their entry. Any personal data relating to the winners or any other entrants will be used solely in accordance with current UK data protection legislation and will not be disclosed to a third party without the entrant’s prior consent.

19- The winners' names will be available 28 days after the closing date by emailing the following address: hello@sunderland.ac.uk.

20- Entry into the competition will be deemed as acceptance of these terms and conditions.

21- This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other Social Network.
