Hello everyone!
Welcome to my April blog! As always, I’m excited to share some updates on our collective efforts, the strides we’ve made in our campaigns, and some exciting events I was privileged to have participated within the month of April.
President: Activities Prince Ikechi
I had the opportunity to attend the NUS England Conference at Bishop Grosseteste University, where student representatives from across the country came together to tackle some of the most pressing issues affecting students in the Higher Education sector. We engaged in powerful discussions around student support, cost of living challenges, housing, mental health, and how we can influence national policy to better serve all students. It was inspiring to see the passion and determination of student leaders working collectively for real change
Another major highlight was participating in the Wonkhe Student Unions Mini Study Tour to Portugal. This international visit allowed us to explore how students' unions abroad mobilize and engage students effectively. About 30 student leaders from across the UK, traversed the city of Lisbon, Coimbra, Barcelos and Porto to build connections, share ideas and identify solutions to the problems besetting both students and the higher education systems in which we are partners
We learned about new strategies for advocacy, democratic representation, and building strong, inclusive student communities. I’m excited to bring back these fresh ideas and work with our teams to enhance how we connect with various student communities and empower students at Sunderland.
