In recent surveys, you’ve told us that you wish the SU had more space on campus for students to use as a base while at Uni. We’ve listened and we’re currently working on plans to redevelop our space on City Campus to make it suit your needs better and truly become your home on campus. We haven’t forgotten about St Peter’s campus – we’ll be working on plans for there later – but for now we’d love to hear your thoughts on our thinking so far about the new space on City Campus!
Below you can see some info about our ideas for the new space and how it can be used to better suit your needs.
The key elements of the initial concept include:
The lounge area is a space for you to spend time between lectures, meet friends or catch up on some reading. There’ll be plenty of spaces to plug in your laptop as well if you need to catch up on emails or get started on your next assignment.
YOUR SU Exec
We know you often have ideas you want to discuss with Your SU Exec and so we’ve created a space that puts them front and centre. They want to speak to you and hear your ideas for how we can help make student life at Sunderland even better, so here you’ll be able to meet them and let them know the change you want to make!
We want to be able to answer all your enquiries as quickly as possible and so we’ll have a one stop reception with staff who can point you in the right direction. We’ll also have a shop space to display merchandise and special offers.
Sometimes you just want a place to eat your lunch in peace, heat up a tasty snack from home or make yourself a quick cuppa. The kitchen space will be open to students to use and will give you a comfy space to refuel.
Open plan office
We need to find a home for all our lovely staff and our suggestion is an open plan office that will allow all the teams to work closely together. We want to make sure you know what’s going on behind the scenes so the new design will allow you to see all the way through from reception to the office so you’ll get to know staff better and get to see all the hard work that goes on at Your SU.
We think it’s important for us to have a meeting room so there’s a space to hold confidential student advice appointments and to plan events, activities and campaigns for and with you. The room will also be bookable so if you need a place to discuss your latest group project or plan your next society event, we’ve got you covered.
Student feedback is really important and helps shape everything we do. This space will be your space and the interactive wall will be the place to tell us what matters to you, what’s on your mind and what you want to see us working on next.
We'd love to know what you think of our ideas so far so leave us a comment and let us know your thoughts and ideas! We'll use your feedback to finalise our plans which we'll be announcing in the new year.
