Welcome Crew 2021

Become part of Welcome Crew 2021

Volunteers wanted from Saturday 18 September to Sunday 26 September.

Welcome Crew is our amazing team of volunteers who support new and existing students throughout the Welcome Week - an entire week dedicated to activities and events meant to give students a glance into what their uni life could look like this year!

Our priority remains to keep students and volunteers safe, so while this year Welcome Week may have fewer handshakes, hugs, and smaller gatherings, you bet it will be just as much fun as always!

We are working on an exciting program of both virtual and in-person activities that you may choose to engage with as a volunteer and depending on the type of activity, your role may differ slightly, but essentially as a Welcome Crew volunteer, you will need to be a friendly face, help students break the ice and make sure everyone feels happy and comfortable throughout the activities. You will help us with a wide range of activities and events for new and returning students such as virtual socials, societies’ taster sessions, vibrant get-togethers, and city-wide events.

This year, we want you to have even more opportunities to lead and influence - we would love you to support not just the delivery, but also the planning of Welcome Week, and help us make sure the programme looks as appealing as possible!

You will also have the option to work with fellow volunteers to plan and deliver an event A to Z – YOUR event will feature in the Welcome Week programme. Training on this will be provided and we will support you at every stage, but we really want YOU to orchestrate it.

Who can apply?

Any returning student at the University (level 2, 3, 4 and postgraduate) who are able to help between Saturday the 18th of September and Sunday 26h of September can apply for this opportunity.

Both online and in-person volunteering opportunities will be available as part of the Welcome Crew role.

Virtual volunteering: Students from both campuses (Sunderland and London) can volunteer to support our online activities.

In-person volunteering: For the in-person events, volunteers will need to be available in Sunderland.

-share your experiences and provide top tips and info about student life

-promote the program of activities and encourage students to take part in the activities planned throughout the week

-help student make the most of each activity by actively engaging with the content and other participants – for some, this may a bit more intimidating to do online and it may be particularly more difficult for shy students. Try to help all students feel happy and comfortable
