National Student Volunteering Week is a fantastic opportunity for students to get involved and make a difference. It offers you the chance to engage with the local community and create a positive impact within the City of Sunderland and beyond!
Between the 10th and 14th of February choose to get involved in our wide range of activities such as First Aid Training and Student Minds Workshop, give a go at volunteering for the Sunderland Foodbank or Magic Hat Café and celebrate SVW with us over a bowling session!

First Aid Training
How confident would you be in an emergency situation? Take part in this first aid session delivered by the British Red Cross and make sure you are always ready to act. This informal and interactive training will help you build lifesaving skills and improve your confidence. Book here.
All about volunteering with Your SU
Whether you want to make new friends, develop your confidence or help the local community, SU has a volunteering opportunity for you! Find out all you need to know about being a Buddy, a Wellbeing Champion, a Student Representative or an Event and Activities Volunteer right from our volunteers. Staff members will also be around to tell you how you can get involved, how you can tailor volunteering to your timetable and more. Light snacks and refreshments will be available. Book here.
Student Minds Workshop
This workshop has been developed by Student Minds. The 'Look After Your Mate' workshop will cover: key practical tips for supporting a friend/peer; motivational interviewing and reflective listening; the student journey: understanding the issues affecting students; signposting to support; looking after your own wellbeing as a supporter and interactive case studies. It's time to take to the lanes for a night of unlimited bowling - can you get a STRIKE?!

Outdoors Community Volunteering
CEED needs volunteers to help look after a greenspace in Sunderland City Centre.
Volunteers will help with a variety of conservation tasks across the site to help to improve Galleys Gill. No previous experience is needed - just enthusiasm! Tasks will include a variety of vegetation management using a range of hand tools. Pruning back trees, shrubs and plants to open up footpaths and steps; coppicing (small tree felling) and general tidying of the site. Book here.

The Magic Hat is a food waste pop-up café which aims to tackle environmental and social injustice by upcycling edible food waste, providing meals for everyone and anyone. All dishes are made from 100% surplus ingredients and served pay-as-you-feel!
