We’re all different and these differences should be celebrated!
Equality and diversity covers 9 protected characterises: age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, gender, sexual orientation, marriage and civil partnership, and pregnancy and maternity. Each is enshrined within the Equality Act 2010 and protects everyone against discrimination both in the work place and within wider society.
Although much work has been done to support various groups of people, and society can be seen to be making progress in improving most peoples lives. There continues to be instances of inequality or hate crime which need to be address, including recent issues such as anti-Semitism, Black Lives Matter, refugees and migrants, and LGBTQ+.
Your SU is running campaigns to highlight issues and raise awareness. If you feel strongly about making improvements on campus and want to develop a campaign to help others or you’ve got some ideas get in touch with us! We have also recently created a number of networks for you to join to speak to others about your experience and come up with solutions to make change.
