RAG or Raise and Give is a long loved tradition for University students and is thought to go back to the Victorian era when students took time out of their studies to collect rags to clothe the poor. Today students go further and raise money in different ways from sky dives and big adventures to cake sales. All of which generates around £84 million for charities across the UK.

Last year we raised money for Breast Cancer Campaign and Everyman during our first RAG week (October 2010) and Oxfam, Shelter and Grace House North East in our 2nd (February 2011).
RAG is also involved in helping charities other than the ones picked for the USSU RAG weeks.
The Grand Total raised over the year with help from RAG volunteers and other students getting involved in their own volunteering was an AMAZING:
£9,878.81 !!!!!

We had our first RAG week of the academic year between during the 24th and 30th of October. From a number of events including cake sales, nail art and the infamous City Centre Raid we raised a fantastic £1300 for Breast Cancer Campaign and Everyman. I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who got involved as we couldn’t have done this without you!!
We are now starting to put preparations together for RAGFest (11th-26th Feb 2012).
