Information for International Students

Immigration

On arrival, your student status and the time limit, Leave to Remain, (L to R) for your stay in the UK, should be on your entry clearance sticker or stamped in your passport.

Some students have an error in their entry clearance visas issued in their HOME COUNTRIES before coming to the UK, where they have been given the wrong expiry dates at the High Commission posts.
Please check your entry clearance sticker, to ensure that you were given the correct amount of time to cover the period you need to be in the UK for completion of your studies.

The Leave to Remain (L to R) you are given should be as follows:

-POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS

should be given the length of their course plus 4 months.

-NON-POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS

COMING FOR COURSES OF ONE ACADEMIC YEAR OR MORE, THAT FINISH IN THE SUMMER should be given until 31st October following the end of their course.

-NON-POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS

COMING FOR COURSES OF ONE ACADEMIC YEAR OR MORE, THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE STANDARD AUTUMN TO SUMMER PATTERN should be given the length of their course plus 2 months.

-STUDENTS COMING FOR COURSES OF MORE THAN 6 MONTHS, BUT LESS THAN ONE ACADEMIC YEAR

should be given the length of their course; with the condition "Work (and any changes) must be authorised" rather than "No work".

-SHORT TERM STUDENTS STUDYING FOR SIX MONTHS DURATION OR LESS AND WHO INDICATE THE INTENTION TO TAKE PART TIME EMPLOYMENT, SUBJECT TO MEETING THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE IMMIGRATION RULES, may be granted leave to enter for the duration of their course up to 6 months at a time (with nothing added at the end of the course)
NB: Students coming for a foundation course or English language course, who have a conditional offer for another course after that foundation or English language course, will normally only be granted leave to cover the length of the first course.

THIS SCHEME CAN ONLY BE USED TO CORRECT MISTAKES ON ENTRY CLEARANCES THAT WERE ISSUED AT POSTS ABROAD

If you think your expiry date may be wrong and you would like us to check whether you are able to have this corrected, please call in to see:
