BEING A STUDENT REP IS WITHOUT A DOUBT ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT AND USEFUL ROLES YOU CAN PLAY DURING YOUR TIME AT SUNDERLAND UNIVERSITY AND REPPING IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO GET INVOLVED IN YOUR UNIVERSITY/UNION AND IN THE DECISION-MAKING PROCESS, WHICH AFFECTS YOU AND YOUR FELLOW STUDENTS.

STUDENT REPS HELP TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF ALL STUDENTS' EDUCATION AND SERVICES AS WELL AS GAINING VALUABLE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES ALONG THE WAY, MAKING NEW FRIENDS AND BEING KEPT UP TO DATE WITH THE LATEST UNIVERSITY/UNION BUSINESS.

What is a student rep?

A Student Rep is a student from any degree programme who would like to represent the views of their fellow students. Usually these students are elected or volunteer, depending on how many positions are available (usually 1 rep per 20 students).

WILL IT TAKE UP MUCH OF MY TIME?
Not necessarily, you can put as much or as little time into it as you wish. It depends on how much you want to get involved.

WHAT WOULD I HAVE TO DO?
Attend and participate in meetings -usually 2/3 per semester.
Recognise student issues and needs and be able to raise them at meetings.
Ensure that the student perspective is expressed and considered.
Help to maintain and improve standards and facilities for students.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME?
Firstly, you will meet new friends and learn the gossip first.
You will be provided with excellent training, which will widen your understanding of the University/Union services/procedures.
Gain fantastic experience, skills and something great to put on your CV.
Know that you made a real difference to your own and other's academic careers.

AM I CAPABLE?
Yes! If you care about getting the best out of your Univesity for you and your fellow students and you are willing to speak up and give a fraction of your time to ensure you get it, then you'll make an ideal Student Rep.

Student repping is a voluntary role and as 'volunteers' within the University, you qualify to undertake the Degree Excel skills based learning programme run by the Students' Union. This programme records your skills, which you gain throughout your year and at the end of the programme, as well as your Representatives Training Certificate, you will receive a University Certificate.
