The Student Complaints Scheme

The Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education (OIA) provides an independent scheme for the review of student complaints.

The University of Sunderland is a member institution.

There is an extensive amount of information on the OIA website including .pdf versions of the guidance and application forms to download or print.

If you feel that the University processes have been exhausted, that the issues have still not been resolved and that the matter should be considered by an external adjudicator, we advise that you consult the advice on the OIA website first or visit the Academic Affairs Department in the Union's Advice Centre in Edinburgh Building. The Academic Advisors can supply you with copies of the forms and leaflets as well as giving face-to-face advice.

Please note that some restrictions apply as certain circumstances may prevent a student from accessing the OIA scheme.

If the OIA scheme is not applicable to resolve your circumstances it may be possible for the Academic & Welfare Advisors to refer you to other sources of external advice and support.
