CONNECT is a social group that meets on a regular basis, ran by Adam Gawne, Student Contact Officer at the Students’ Union. It is open to all students and is a great way to meet new people and make friends. Most importantly it is FREE to join!
Activities include going to the Cinema, Ten Pin Bowling, barbecues, trips, museum and cultural visits, sport evenings, volunteering projects etc. You can even input your own ideas for events you would like to participate in. There is NO FEE to join CONNECT, but students are expected to pay for the activities they want to participate in (most events or trips are free, however in some cases there is a cost which is discounted to student friendly prices).
CONNECT is also on FACEBOOK. Join the group and check the pictures from previous events, chat with other members, post your suggestions and more. All Facebook members are getting invitations to all CONNECT activities and events via Facebook.

This year we are looking to widen our links with the local and regional community and look for new initaives and projects to get involved with.
As Connect is rapidly expanding we want to bring you more opportunities to get involved and make friends!
All Points North and The Globe Cafe are both brilliant organisations that offer help and support to all students. They will be working alongside Connect to bring you more chances to join in on events and trips as well have fun throughout your time at the University of Sunderland. They will also help you build valuable skills that will help you when you leave the University and get a job. A place to meet friends and make friends from all over the world.
The Cafe has been running for over six years, meeting during term time each Thursday evening 8.00-10.00pm at Sunderland Free Church. We provide coffee and tea and a friendly, relaxing place to come and meet with friends. You can just come for a chat, practice your English or play table tennis or badminton. We have a programme of events each Thursday as well as occasional trips and events.
If you are new to Sunderland we would love to be able to welcome you to this City and to our country—but most of all to be able to introduce you to our friends from all over the world.

All Points North is a new regional project we have running delivered by the North of England Refugee Service.
It is a project for ANY young person aged 16-25 living in Tyne and Wear designed as personal and social development programme with a particular emphasis on cultural learning, citizenship and wellbeing.
It is an innovative and social programme that has a non-formal approach to learning.
Young people can come along to the weekly sessions to participate in a range of activities, build confidence, meet new people and gain new skills and experiences.
The project encourages integration amongst young people and offers a safe reception to North East for those newly arrived.
We meet one evening a week to engage in group-work and explore young people’s concerns or ideas and help develop these into a project through the use of media, music, sport or art.
Travel expenses are reimbursed, snacks are provided, and you will get a chance to achieve a Youth Achievement Award.
